Welcome
She had just come back from visiting her daughter in London: ‘I’ve missed everyone in the group so much – I can’t wait to see them all again!’ The LS17 prayer-based small group has that effect on people. It’s a place to make friends, share burdens, support each other in prayer, and just enjoy being together.
Most of us live in LS17 (Moortown, Shadwell, Alwoodley and Wigton Moor) with one or two from other postcode areas. We come from varying walks of life and countries including, at present, China, Nigeria, Ghana, Zambia and Zimbabwe – not forgetting England and Scotland!
God at work
We are a prayer-based group which means that we take God's promises to answer prayer seriously. We regularly pray for group and personal needs (sickness, problems, house sales, work situations). We are also concerned about people in our area who don't know Jesus yet, and pray regularly for them. We also pray for our church leaders and events and activities of Bridge St Church. God answers prayer - not always straightaway but in wisdom, love and perfect timing.

What We Actually DO when we meet
We meet on the first Wednesday of each month. Our evenings vary but the first half hour is always spent catching up and chatting over coffee, tea and home-baked apple pie or cake. After looking at a Bible passage together we pray for our own and others’ needs. We also keep an updated prayer bulletin at home and pray regularly for family, friends and neighbours.
Recently, a department leader from church came to share his life story with us. Another time we had a French night when everyone brought French food, played French games and ‘sang French songs’! At our May meeting we watched a DVD on Creationism. During the year we have social events including meals out, a BBQ, and a Christmas buffet with carols. We always invite family members and friends to these.
